About WhatIsMy-IPAddress.com

Who is behind this site, how my tools work, and how this project is funded.

Who I Am

Hi, I'm Mirek G. — I build and maintain WhatIsMy-IPAddress.com as an independent, solo project based in Europe. There is no massive data broker, VC fund, or ad agency behind this site. Trained as a mechanical engineer, I write industrial simulation code for a living and built this platform in my spare time. I got tired of mainstream privacy checkers burying critical data under aggressive pop-ups, heavy ads, and misleading upsell copy, so I decided to build a tool that is fast, transparent, and strictly upfront about its data.

Why This Site Exists

When you ask "What is my IP?" or "Am I being tracked?", you deserve a definitive, technical answer explained in plain English — not a high-pressure sales pitch. Operating from Europe under strict privacy standards, this platform consolidates reliable IP lookups, VPN leak tests, browser fingerprinting analysis, and data breach checkers into one clean, high-performance interface built for everyday users and sysadmins alike.

What You'll Find Here

Where I Get My Data

Every result on this site is either measured directly in your browser or comes from an established, publicly documented source: IP address and geolocation data from ipify, ipapi.co and ipinfo.io (with automatic fallback between them), WHOIS records from the official regional internet registries (via RDAP), ASN data from ipapi.is, VPN, proxy, and Tor detection from proxycheck.io, IP abuse reports from AbuseIPDB, DNS leak testing via bash.ws, speed test measurements from Cloudflare's Speed API, and breach records from Have I Been Pwned. Each tool page notes its specific data source. Where a result is an estimate rather than a direct measurement — such as IP geolocation or the fingerprint uniqueness and tracking exposure scores — the page says so.

Your Privacy Comes First

This site doesn't require an account and doesn't log what you look up. The password checker uses a k-anonymity model, so your actual password is never sent in readable form — see the FAQ below for exactly how it works. Full details on every tool are in my Privacy Policy.

How I Make Money

Affiliate Disclosure: WhatIsMy-IPAddress.com is free to use. When you click through to a VPN provider from pages like VPN Comparison and sign up, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Recommendations are based on my independent research — no provider can pay for a better review or ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I trust your recommendations over larger review sites?
Many major review sites are owned by the same corporate conglomerates that operate the VPN services themselves, creating a direct conflict of interest. While this platform earns transparent affiliate commissions to stay online, my rankings remain strictly independent. No provider can buy a better position or pay to hide a failed leak test. If a VPN stops working or changes its logging policy, its score drops immediately.
Is my network activity logged when running your tests?
The vast majority of tests (DNS, WebRTC, fingerprinting) execute locally client-side in your browser or run through public API relays without storing anything that identifies you. The fingerprint check does report individual signal values (e.g. your screen resolution or GPU renderer string — never the computed hash) to build an anonymous running count of how common each value is, with no IP address or visitor ID ever attached. To protect the infrastructure from automated abuse, the port scanner and this fingerprint stats endpoint each temporarily hold a one-way hash of your IP to enforce rate-limiting. The email breach checker is the one exception that requires sending readable data off your device — the email address you enter is passed to third-party breach databases (Have I Been Pwned, LeakCheck.io, EmailRep.io) to check for matches, though I never store it on my own servers. Outside of these technical safeguards, I do not log or commercialize your search queries or network history.
How are the password breach checks kept secure?
The password checker operates on a strict k-anonymity model via the Have I Been Pwned API. Only the first 5 characters of your password's SHA-1 hash are transmitted to verify a match. Your actual, raw password never leaves your local workstation and is completely unreadable to me and any third party.
Can I request a custom network tool or report a bug?
Absolutely. Independent software thrives on real-world user feedback. If you are a network engineer, developer, or privacy advocate who spots a data discrepancy or wants a specific scanning tool deployed, just send a note to the email address below.
